Reflection of Photography

Planning Process

To help me begin to prepare my initial images, in a group, we decided to experiment different photography shots around a certain theme/themes. Firstly in my group we brainstormed lots of different themes we could use for the photography task. after some discussion we decided on two contrasting themes of automotive and nature because we thought it would give us a wide range of different photography shots, that would suit the two different themes.

After deciding on our themes, we all decided to do 4 of our own images based on our themes. To help plan what shot we would do in each of our images, we did some sketches of what we would like to achieve. After sketching some images of what we would like to do, in a group we chose the best 4 from each person, making 12 in total.

Feelings on my Images

After finishing the photography task, and after analysing our images, I was pleased with what me and my group achieved. From our images we included the areal shot, the low angle shot, the high angled shot, the tilted shot, the establishing shot, the zoomed shot, the wide shot, the over the shoulder shot, and the long shot. Overall most of the images looked professional and still.

I was pleased with the results because the two themes we had chosen clearly stand out and we used what we had to good use.

Rules of Photography

Using the rules of photography was relatively easy. We had been given a sheet on all the photography rules and camera techniques and they were easy to put into action. These also helped us to create some good images and helped me understand the rules of photography better.

Would I change anything

From the photography task, I feel that I would have changed the nature theme to colours because there are only a limited numbers of ways to photograph nature. But also because colours would have worked well with automotive, by using the different colours of cars to express the varying number of photographic techniques. The Nature theme worked well but not as well as I intended it to be because we got no images that really stand out.

My favourite

The image I feel is the most effective, and my most favourite is the image of the car which includes the low angle and the establishing shot. I feel this is the most effective shot because it tells a story, by using the angles of the shot to create character. And the natural light highlights the curves of the car.

My least favourite

The image I feel is the least effective, and my least favourite is the image of the canal. we tried to obtain a low angle shot but there is nothing that stands out in the images. the photograph itself also looks very dull and boring.

Feedback

After presenting our images to the class, we received numerous comments about our images. The point most people focused on was that we had no depth of field shot. But apart from that we received good comments about our images.

What I have learnt

From this task I have learned many different photographic techniques such as the areal shot, the low angle shot, the high angled shot, the establishing shot, the wide shot, the over the shoulder shot, and the long shot. I have also become more familiar with the controls on a camera and how to use the natural light to emphasis an object.
